MEET DR. CANDIA SMITH, DMH

Dr. Candia Smith is a licensed psychologist in private practice and the director of the Advanced Therapy Center (Orinda, CA).

Candia specialized in a highly effective combination of neurofeedback systems, integrative psychotherapy and EMDR. Basing each treatment on 25 years of experience and expert diagnostic evaluations, Dr. Smith often sees marked client improvements in a very short period of time. She has an exceptional record of success with clients who have tried other methods without getting results in overcoming issues related to brain injury, substance abuse, anxiety, depression and stress.

*The Doctorate in Mental Health degree developed by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and UC Berkeley (UCB) provided leading training in psychiatry, psychology and social work by combining a master of science degree in health and medical sciences (UCB) with a psychiatric residency (UCSF). 

Dr. Smith studied with, and was supervised by nationally prominent psychoanalysts and clinicians, and completed thousands of hours of in-patient, crisis and outpatient clinical work. She says, “Every day, it’s an exciting honor to bring my knowledge and experience to my clinical practice.”




MEET JOALEEN JOHNSON

Joaleen Johnson is the neurofeedback technician at Advanced Therapy Center. She is a recent graduate of UC Berkeley in psychology and will go on to graduate school. Joaleen is also a research assistant at Berkeley Psychophysiological Lab studying the impact of neurogenerative disorders on emotions and relationships. Joaleen is very interested in the human brain and is excited to be working toward neurofeedback certification as she believes neurofeedback is a powerful tool to promote psychological well being.




MEET DR. NICHOLAS DOGRIS, PHD.

Dr. Nicholas Dogris, PhD., does interpretation of the QEEG and helps with treatment planning. He is the inventor of the Neurofield, PEMF device that we use extensively at ATC. Dr. Dogris took his doctoral training at the California School of Professional Psychology and is a licensed psychologist. He has extensive training in a diversity of modalities and is an innovative clinician and thinker. He spends much of his time training clinicians in the use of the Neurofield and pushing continued research and development.




MEET DR. ALISSA SCANLIN, PSYD

Dr. Alissa Scanlin, PsyD is a Learning Specialist and clinical psychologist. She has a BA in Psychology and an MA in Special Education, with a focus on Learning Handicaps from San Francisco State University. She completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at John F. Kennedy University, and she has worked extensively with students experiencing educational difficulties at all educational levels, from preschoolers to older adults. For over 20 years, she has worked at Contra Costa Community College as a learning specialist. She has expertise in assessment and in determining appropriate support strategies and accommodations for a variety of learning problems, including ADHD and specific learning disabilities in reading, writing and mathematics.
